For nearly a quarter of a century, Pantone’s annual color set the tone for creative industries. Product development and packaging, graphic design, fashion, and interior design all draw inspiration from this announcement. The color experts at Pantone carefully consider a variety of color influences and trend analyses to come to the decision each year that reflects the current culture.
According to Pantone, Very Peri represents the future ahead in a new light. The color Very Peri harnesses the comfort and trust that comes from its blue hues. It also evokes the excitement and joy that comes from the violet-red undertones. Very Peri serves us creativity and innovation for the future while keeping it comfy and nostalgic.
It’s a groundbreaking choice as this is the first time Panton has released a new color for the Color of the Year. Instead of pulling an existing one from their massive catalog of options 2022 calls for something *unprecedented*:
“The Pantone Color of the Year reflects what is taking place in our global culture, expressing what people are looking for that color can hope to answer,” added Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute. “Creating a new color for the first time in the history of our Pantone Color of the Year educational color program reflects the global innovation and transformation taking place. As society continues to recognize color as a critical form of communication, and a way to express and affect ideas and emotions and engage and connect, the complexity of this new red violet-infused blue hue highlights the expansive possibilities that lay before us”.
Since Very Peri is newly created there aren’t many options for an exact color match for fabrics yet. However, we managed to find one that we think can pass as a decent catfish:

While not exact, the color Heather Lapis 00332 is a close match to Very Perri. This option is a great canvas for printing and will fit like your favorite worn-in tee.
Very Peri while a cute, unassuming name may be a bit bold for some as a fabric choice. If that’s you, check out these suggested palettes from Pantone below for inspiration. Very Peri can act as a playful pop of color or serve as one note in a harmonious display of color.
The first palette dubbed “Balancing Act” is by far the crowd favorite. It includes a balance of warm and cool tones that perfectly complement each other. We think this palette does a great job of incorporating color in a way that isn’t too overwhelming.
